Pawtriotic Pet Hotel
Leo's Story
Adopted from AFV
It was a cold morning, as I am walking down the street in the middle of February, not knowing where my next meal will come from, I hear a truck pull up behind me.
In fear I look to see where I can run and hide, but to my dismay something grabs me around my neck.
OH NO!! I have heard whimpers and whines about this from other stray dogs on the street, but I have never experienced the true arrest myself.
I was put into a large metal container. I was scared, confused but relieved I was safe.
I close my eyes and fall deep asleep. I started remembering my past and how I got to where I am now.
……….I was just a few months old, looking around I see busy monsters on wheels, zooming past the field I was dumped in. I am alone and scare. Then a truck pulls up and a man comes out and picks me up.
He takes me home. This lady that I can tell will love me a lot takes me in her arms and starts petting and kissing me.
As the months pass, I am getting older. It is hard for me to hold my potty as they do not pay me much attention and I can’t get outside to go.
I guess I am a bad dog, that is what the man says to me all the time. He finally chained me up in the back yard to a tree. He kept hitting me saying “bad dog, bad dog”
Later that night I was able to pull my head from the chain and jump over the fence to get away from the scary man……….
As I wake up from the ride in the metal container, I go into a facility that people keep calling Animal Friends of the Valley. There are nice people here, they come and look at me, walk me, feed me, read to me, but I feel empty still. I need my own person.
I guess the people that come to look at me don’t like that I poop and try to paint art all over the walls and glass with it. They say, that’s gross and keep walking to look at others that are here too. Everyone here is looking for their own humans and homes.
One day I get called out to the middle, I have never been there before. I go and I see this man and lady standing there looking at me, petting me, loving on me….is it my people? Am I getting to go to my own loving home? As quickly as I asked myself this question, I am taken to an area to get a needle in my neck, and they write down a number on a piece of paper. The say something about a microchip.
I am led out to the lobby and there they are, the man and woman! They take me to a truck; I get in and off we go.
Once I get home, I am greeted by another German Shepherd, but BOY is she a biggin!! I better stay clear of her; she is 3 times my weight. They call her “Big Mama’s” or “Rosie Posie”
I am greeted by another Male German Shepherd, but he is my size, little!! They call him “Stan the mini man” or “Stanford”
There is another one, but he is weird looking – he is white with these weird half blue and half brown eyes. The call him “Derpie” or “Ryuu” – he doesn’t answer to either, so I don’t think he knows his name. He will come to them if they sing him his name; Rrrryyyuuuuuuuuuhuuuuu………. weird!!

So here I am, in this home with these other furbabies but they all seem to know each other, I feel like an outsider. I find my comfort going to the lady, they call her Christina. I really like her, I feel like she is going to be my person, if she likes it or not, I’m claiming her!!
I got to sleep in her bed the first night and cuddled up close to her. I got the best sleep I have gotten in forever!! I’m home and I have my person.
Two years later, I am now a mascot at the Pawtriotic Pet Hotel, I get to give tours to other people and dogs, I also get yummy treats from our Pawtriotic Dog Bakery and get pampered at the Pawtriotic Dog Spaw!
I have to say, I’m living my best life. We sometimes have fosters that we house, and I try to comfort them the best I can as I know how scared they are.

Well, that’s my story – come in and say hi to me at the Pet Hotel if you get a chance.
Yours truly,
Leonardo Zackary Drake
